February 19th: LUEWWD III-Bleeding Hearts, Broken Parts
Grand Total: $3,005
LUEWWD Champion: Phoenix Rising
Madame Moneymaker: Turdley McStinkfinger
Durham Diva: Turdley McStinkfinger
This LUEWWD tournament showcased top notch competitors, witty judges, and the scantily clad Round Boy. We saw several veteran wrestlers return to prove their might. Bama Banger advanced to the final round to face Phoenix Rising who ultimately took home her second championship belt. Zap, the fearless gladiator, did not make it quite as far as she did in LUEWWD II but still had a great couple of bouts. Turdley McStinkfinger reportedly suffered an arm wrestling injury to her giant bicep as she wrestled the mighty Mary Derm. The tree chopping Paula Bunyan was tapped out quickly in the first round but certainly gave it her all. Jesse the Peacemaker defeated her first round opponent and went on to the semi finals only to fall to the football-sized muscles of Phoenix Rising. While the night ultimately belonged to veterans one rookie was creating quite a stir. A scary Plishia da Black Panther had everyone a bit on edge with her crossed eyes and deep growls that helped her advance to win Queen of the Loser’s bracket.
What about that muscle-bound LUEWWD boy Steve? He did a fantastic job of holding up the round signs, walking across the stage, and being objectified by most of the people in the crowd. Thanks for taking one for the team Steve! Speaking of objectifying the Round Boy, Wendy, our faithful MC, did a great job on the microphone while May provided the soundtrack for the evening. As always, she somehow finds the right song for every LUEWWD moment (our very own Delilah). Jimmy Bear also returned for LUEWWD III to call the shots at the table. Our cast of judges stole the show with Robert and Kam’s quick-witted one-liners and Sam’s inspirational words.
We would be remiss if we did not give a shout out to PBR for their sponsorship, the Casbah for graciously hosting these LUEWWD events, Poe for his artistic talents, out-of-towners Brad and Coburn for their professional photography skills, and Mr. Shannon (the Mountie’s dad) for building the stage. We’d like to thank Housing for New Hope and the Dove House for providing volunteers, a judge, and a contestant, and for taking a chance on us. We were also very grateful for our volunteers Jennifer, our lovely cashier at the door, and Kristin, the one who talked you all into buying a 50/50 raffle ticket by telling you that you could win a million dollars (while it was a gross exaggeration, it worked). Lastly, we want to thank YOU for coming and spending your hard-earned cash on a great cause! Keep doing it!
October 16th: LUEWWD II- The Bitch Is Back
Grand Total: $2,554
LUEWWD II Champion: Phoenix Rising
Durham Diva: Ze Lunch Lady
Madame Moneymaker: Hardcore Heidi
June 12th: LUEWWD’s Inaugural Event
Attendance: 320
Net amount raised: $3,795
Tournament Champion: Monster Cookie
Durham Diva: El Pulpo Feroz
Madame Moneymaker: Madam de Mort, $581 (2nd place: Lena the Lewd, $385.75; 3rd place: Ze Monsta, $306.36)
Here’s what happened:
The event kicked off with a nailbiter match-up between Honeymuff Homewrecker and the Beastal. Their arms were trembling and hovered over the center line for several minutes. However, Honeymuff finally claimed victory in the tie-breaking bout. In the next match we saw a growling Ze Monsta overcome Madame de Mort. Then Monster Cookie took out Lena the Lewd in the third pairing and Bama Banger took down El Pulpo Feroz in the last match-up.
Before the second round we had two silent auction matches where members of the audience bid for a chance to wrestle. Beastal had an easy win over her male challenger, Yeti and board member Ginger Snapps fell to Madame de Mort.
The second round promised more excitement when Honeymuff Homewrecker battled Ze Monsta in a fairly even bout. However, Ze Monsta’s raucous entourage proved to be the fuel that she needed to take out Honeymuff Homewrecker. Meanwhile, our wild card Monster Cookie pulled an upset over Bama Banger to secure her spot in the final round.
During intermission we saw a few more silent auction bouts. Hardcore Heidi not only won the bid to wrestle Lena the Lewd, but she also won bragging rights when she defeated her. In the second silent auction match-up, the Hawk (who apparently traveled all the way from Asheville to attend the event) defeated El Pulpo Feroz. A surprise $100 donation came from one of our sponsors, Athletic Advantage, for a match-up between Gary Johnson and board member Knuck If You Buckeye. After winning that match, a chest-pounding, fist-pumping Johnson paraded across the stage. However, the wind was quickly taken out of his sails when a West Virginia arm wrestling state champ quickly slammed Johnson’s hand to the pads. Intermission was again extended when Lena the Lewd pulled a Kanye and grabbed MC Flow’s microphone to challenge her “twin sister,” board member Mountie. Despite a valiant effort the Mountie was overcome by good old fashioned sibling rivalry. Then the James Joyce’s very own Fergus Bradley dropped a $100 donation to burst the West Virginian’s bubble by bringing a quick defeat to the former state champion.
MC Flow finally got us back on track and we moved on to the championship round between Monster Cookie and Ze Monsta. Rumor has it that there was a good deal of trash talking and growling. However, Monster Cookie finally brought down Ze Monsta and took home a glorious championship belt presented to her by celebrity judge Robert Bland.
Celebrity judge Dr. Kim Strom-Gottfried presented the Durham Diva (best costume) award to El Pulpo Feroz and her entourage of sea creatures.
Finally, celebrity judge Emily Carmody (aka: Steel Magnolia) presented the Madame Moneymaker (most money collected) award to Madame de Mort who raised $580!
MC Flow then passed the mic to judge Robert Bland who heckled the crowd for challengers and donations. We can’t give you the play by play of the countless audience members who wrestled, but we will say that we raised $400 just in the last half hour!
